So, you think you want to give flat water sea kayaking a try and this is your first time. Perhaps you have already tried it and want to get some formal instructions to get started on the right track or maybe just improve your techniques. Seayaker Outfitters offers programs designed for both first-timers and experienced sea kayakers in the form of Sea Kayaking Instructional Courses, Erie Canal Historic Tours and Open Water Adventures. We also offer group and private programs customized to match your needs and skill levels. Our group size, a maximum of six, is kept small to provide for personalized attention.
Progressive lessons by ACA certified coastal kayak instructors on Fridays & weekends. Locations vary. $10 wet suit rentals available. Call or e-mail for details.
Full day- 9 - 4 PM, 3 hr lesson followed by afternoon

Intro to Sea Kayak Touring- 2 hrs $25 Mon Eves, 6:45PM, Erie Canal, Macedon Canal Park
This is for people who have never been in a sea kayak before or fail to demonstrate having previous instructions or experience. You will learn some of the basics of sea kayaking to put you at ease for our Erie Historic Tours. It's a great way fo try out sea kayak touring and explore the Erie Canal with acquired confidence.
Saturdays 9 -12AM
This is the dry class, or at least we try to keep
you that way. The aim is to provide new students, or those without
any former training, an opportunity to get comfortable handling and
controlling a sea kayak. Learn the fundamentals including how to get
out of the boat in the event of a capsize, how to use the whole body
to paddle forward and control the boat efficiently using forward,
reverse, sweeps and draw strokes, about some pros & cons of
various boat designs, features, and buying selection.
Sundays 9 - 12 AM
This is a discovery class as you may get wet
discovering your limits. Focus on further building your skills by
honing in on the strokes learned in the BASICS program and how to go
straight. Learn about hip snaps, J-leans, staying dry with various
bracing techniques, braced turns, and how to blend strokes to become
a more confident and capable sea kayak touring paddler.
Sea Kayaking 3-
RESCUE
Skills ½ day $35, Full $55
Fri
Even dated Fridays 9 - 12 AM
You will get wet and return rewarded because of
it. In this fun course, practice wet exits, solo & assisted
re-entry techniques, the paddle float rescue, along with T, X, PS and
HI rescues. You'll be glad you took this when you tackle more open
water adventures.
Sea Kayaking 4-
ROLLING
Skills ½ day $45, Full $60 Fri
(only 3 per class)
Odd dated Fridays 1 - 4 PM
Add this, the most efficient self-rescue technique, to your repertoire. Work through the foundation for the Eskimo roll- the hip snap, the high brace, and focus on the protected arm and body positions needed to achieve a safe, reliable roll. Progress through it step-by-step learning of your mistakes with feedback from a watchful certified instructor.
